If when you connect the Nokia Lumia 520 or 630, the computer does not see the smartphone and the synchronization program does not open, then Microsoft recommends several steps to resolve the problems.
Consider them on the example of the popular Lumia 520 smartphone with firmware rm914.
Install a fresh driver
If you have already spent a lot of time, but the driver for the lumia 520 or any other Windows Phone model is installed, then you need to remove it and reinstall it, following our instructions, which has helped a lot.
Connect the smartphone to a computer or laptop on Windows, go to the “Device Manager” section, look for Lumia in “portable devices”. If there is a problem with the driver, there will be a yellow exclamation mark next to it.
Choose a smartphone from the list of portable devices and go to "Properties". Remove the driver and return to the “Device Manager”. Again, select your smartphone from the list, open the "Properties" and update the driver.
Works? If not, then move on to the next method.
Download and install the driver yourself
This method is very likely to solve the problem. Recently, the author of these lines successfully reinstalled the driver for Lumia 920 by following these steps:
Remove the old driver, and then click on the link http://catalog.update.microsoft.com, agreeing along the way with installing the browser add-on. In the search box, enter
Windows Phone Winusb
You will see a page with the driver, which must first be added to the basket, and already downloaded from it to your computer.
Go to the “Device Manager”, right-click on your smartphone and in the properties click “Update Driver”. Specify the path to the file you just downloaded.
The driver must install!

The Nokia Lumia line is a line of touchscreen smartphones based on the Windows Phone 7 and Windows Phone 8 operating systems, which first appeared on the market in 2011. The first four devices of this series (models 610, 710, 800, and 900) were equipped with the Windows Phone 7 operating system. In September 2012, Nokia and Microsoft announced the launch of the Lumia 820 and Lumia 920 based on the Windows Phone 8 OS.
Despite the fact that the OS for smartphones from Windows is still significantly inferior in popularity to its competitors, this line has already found loyal fans around the world.
Next, we’ll show you how to connect your Nokia Lumia to a computer or laptop.
Windows 8 and Windows 7
You will need to use the free Windows Phone desktop application. It will help to synchronize the media content of your smartphone with your computer. You can copy music, photos, videos, movies, tunes and podcasts that you would like to see on your Nokia. If you have Windows 8 installed, just connect the smartphone and computer with a USB cable, and the system will install the application automatically. If you use the Windows 7 system, then you will need to download the application from the official WindowsPhone website.
Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP
If you are more comfortable working with folders and files, you can use Explorer. To successfully transfer files to your computer, you must have Service Pack 3 installed on your operating system and the player version is at least Windows Media Player 11.
To sync Lumia with Apple’s operating system, you need the Windows Phone app for Mac. This app is available on the Mac App Store. To find the program you need, use the Store search by entering the first characters of the software name in the line.
In order to use the wireless synchronization of your Lumia with your computer, you will need to install the Zune program. Zune is a program for Nokia Lumia smartphones, integrated into the "Music + Video" section of the Windows Phone operating system. Thanks to it, the smartphone can be used as an analogue of the Zune player: synchronize media content between the computer and the phone, download music, videos, movies and podcasts from the Zune Marketplace, update the phone software, etc.
After installing Zune on your computer, you will also need to use a USB cable for the first synchronization.
- Open the Zune program,
- Select Settings-Phone,
- Check your phone’s Wi-Fi connection,
- Click the Set Wireless Sync button and follow the on-screen instructions.
In order for you to be able to use wireless synchronization with a computer in the future, the following conditions must be observed:
- Your smartphone and computer must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network,
- The smartphone’s battery charge should be less than half
- The phone must be plugged in,
- Establishing wireless synchronization can take up to 15 minutes. You cannot use your smartphone at this time.
